New Business

Together with our customers we are developing new nano- and microstructure product ideas to the series production stage.

One interesting field of innovation is bionic structures, in which proven functional surface structures from nature are adopted into technical solutions.

Bionic structures — Examples from nature for modern technology

Nature offers many solutions for micro- and nanostructured surfaces.

temicon produces nano- and microstructures, such as structures similar to shark skin (riblet structures) that reduce drag on airplanes, ships and windmills. A moth’s eye has nanostructures on its surface that are used for anti-reflective treatment of surfaces.

Another example are the structures on the wings of Morpho butterflies, which ensure homogeneous coloration even from wide viewing angles. We are working with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE on a solution for colored photovoltaic modules whose structure has been modeled on the Morpho butterfly. Such colored photovoltaic modules (Morphocolor®) are of great interest for facade design.
